Please accept our prayerful best wishes as you prepare for the Baptism of your child. Your child is soon to become a member of our Catholic Community and the Mystical Body of Christ. We invite you to become more a part of our Parish life and a regular participant at Sunday Mass.
In preparing for this happy occasion couples are asked to make an appointment with one of the priests to schedule a date and time and to get information regarding requirements for receiving the Sacrament.
DOCUMENTS NEEDED
- A copy of the child's Birth Certificate
- If you live outside Holy Rosary parish, a Letter of Permission from your home parish.
- If the Godparents live outside Holy Rosary Parish, a Sponsor Certificate from their home parish. Holy Rosary cannot issue Sponsor Certificates to those who received sacraments here but no longer live within our parish boundaries..
-Your contact numbers and email.
GODPARENTS
- A Godparent must be a practicing Catholic who attends Mass regularly, who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and if married is in a valid church marriage (married by a Priest or Deacon). A Godparent must present a Confirmation Certificate in order to obtain the necessary Sponsor Letter.
-Please be reflective in selecting Godparents. A baptismal Godparent is chosen for life and may never be replaced.
- at least one Catholic Godparent is required. If you select two Godparents, one must be a man and one must be a woman. A baptized non-Catholic may act as a witness to the Baptism. Catholics may not serve as Christian Witnesses.
PRE-BAPTISMAL INSTRUCTIONS
Parents and Godparents are expected to attend a Pre-Baptismal Instruction. These instructions are held at Holy Rosary the first Sunday of the month. If you live outside the parish, you may attend in your home parish and get a Letter stating that you have attended the instruction. Dates for these instructions are included in the booklet you receive at your initial meeting with the priest.

PRIVATE BAPTISMS
Due to the shortage of priests, private baptisms will only be accomodated if the family has arranged for their own priest or deacon to perform the ceremony. If the priest or deacon is coming from another Diocese, a letter of good standing from their Diocese/Religious Community is required.
Sponsor Certificates are often required before one can serve as a Godparent for the Sacrament of Baptism or as a Sponsor for the Sacrament of Confirmation. In order to receive a Sponsor Certificate from Holy Rosary, one needs to be a Registered Parishioner of the Parish, have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, must be over 14 years of age and if married, must be in a valid Church marriage (have been married in the presence of a priest/deacon and two witnesses). Divorced persons may serve as sponsors as long as they are living as single persons.
A Confirmation certificate is required to be shown when requesting a Sponsor Certificate.
Persons who received their Sacraments at Holy Rosary Parish and who no longer live in the parish boundaries must go to the parish in which they are currently living to request a sponsor certificate. We no longer have jurisdiction over persons who do not live within our parish boundaries and cannot issue a sponsor certificate to such persons.
The PERSON REQUIRING THE CERTIFICATE MUST see the Priest AFTER ATTENDING THE MASS and request one.
Sponsor Certificates may be obtained only AFTER any of the Sunday Masses.
