Father Michael Martine was born in Brooklyn to Gustave and Eileen Martine. He was raised in the Prince’s Bay section of Staten Island and attended Saint Joseph Saint Thomas grammar school in Pleasant Plains. Upon graduation from Monsignor Farrell High School, Father entered the Saint John Neuman Seminary Residence in Riverdale, the Bronx while pursuing his undergraduate degree at Fordham University. Upon his graduation from college, Father spent four years of theological study at Saint Joseph Seminary in Yonkers and was ordained to the priesthood on May 17, 1997 by John Cardinal O’Connor.
Since ordination, Father has served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Frances of Rome in the Northeast Bronx, Sacred Heart in Monroe and Saint Anthony’s in Nanuet. He then went to Catholic University of America in Washington DC to pursue studies in Canon Law. After completion of his degree, he was then assigned to Saint Joseph Seminary in Yonkers where he served as Procurator and Professor of Canon Law. In 2009, he was assigned as Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Rosebank.
In addition to his parish assignments, Father is also active in the field of Canon Law. He currently serves as Judge, Defender of the Bond and Promoter of Justice for the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of New York and Associate Judge and Defender of the Bond of the Church’s New York State Tribunal of Appeals and the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA. He is a member of the Canon Law Society of America.
Father Michael holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Theology from Fordham University in the Bronx, a Masters in Divinity from Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, a Bachelor of Sacred Theology Magna cum Laude from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome and a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. Father has a knowledge of Spanish, Italian and Latin.
Father is active in various community and civic organizations as well. He is a member of Knights of Columbus Stolzenthaler Council 1675 and the Governor Dongan Fourth Degree Assembly, Chaplain of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 4 and New York State and Past National Chaplain of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
